Cassandra Henderson grew up in Columbus, Ohio, U.S.A., and received her B.A. from The Ohio State University in 2013. In 2014 she moved to Tokyo, Japan, to work in the molecular spectroscopy laboratory of Prof. Tahei Tahara at RIKEN. After one year, she joined the synthetic organic chemistry laboratory of Prof. Mikiko Sodeoka at RIKEN. There she conducted her master’s research on chlorodifluoromethylation reactions using in situ generated perfluoroacyl peroxides. Under the joint supervision of Prof. Sodeoka and Prof. Shū Kobayashi, she received her M.Sc. in 2018 from the University of Tokyo. She then returned to Ohio and worked as an analytical chemist at Hikma Pharmaceuticals for four years. In 2023 she arrived in the Netherlands to pursue her PhD candidacy at the Van’t Hoff Institute for Molecular Sciences under the supervision of Prof. Timothy Noël. Her research will focus on the development of photocatalytic site-selective peptide modification reactions in flow.
