Federico Belnome was born in 1995 in Erba, a small town near Como (Italy). He graduated in 2020 with a degree in Chemical Sciences from the University of Milan, where he conducted his master’s thesis under the supervision of Dr. Emma Gallo, focusing on porphyrin catalysis. After graduation, he worked for 8 months as a quality control chemist at Eurofins Biolab before joining the CHAIR ITN in November 2021. He started to work at Thalesnano in collaboration with the Research Centre for National Science in Budapest, under the supervision of Dr. Tamas Hergert, Dr. Peter Abrany-Balogh, and Dr. Gyorgy M. Keserü. Over the course of three years, he worked on developing alternative and novel methodologies for C-H functionalization of motifs primarily used in medicinal chemistry. During these three years, he spent 3 months in the research group of Dr. Joanna Wencel-Delord at CNRS in Strasbourg, working on Micellar Catalysis in collaboration with Dr. Fabrice Gallou (Novartis). He also spent 3 months in the medicinal chemistry R&D department at Johnson & Johnson in Beerse (Belgium), working under the supervision of Dr. Soufyan Jerhaoui and Dr. Laurent Lefort to develop new methodologies for C-H functionalization using HTE. In November 2024, he joined Prof. Timothy Noël’s group at the University of Amsterdam to complete his Ph.D. studies, focusing on photocatalytic HAT transformations.
